چکیده مقاله:

Introduction:Preeclampsia is a common obstetric adverse effect. This problem may be due to somealterations in serum levels of minerals and vitamins. Two proposed factors are magnesiumand vitamin D. Accordingly, in this study the serum level of magnesium and vitamin D inwomen with preeclampsia and women with normal pregnancies were compared.Materials and Methods:In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study, laboratory and demographic data from114 women in Javaheri Hospital in Tehran in 2011 and 2012 were obtained by medicalexisting data and also were compared between women with preeclampsia and women withnormal pregnancies by SPSS version (18.0) software.Result:In this study, the mean age was 26.29 ± 5.2 years. Mainly (42.1%) were in third trimester.23.7% were overweight and remaining had normal BMI. Four patients had history ofpreeclampsia in previous pregnancies. 42.1% of subjects had background disease that in31.6% was anemia. 49.1% of patients had asymptomatic bacteriuria. 42.1% had low backpain and 18.4% had pelvic pain. Totally seven women (6.1%) had preeclampsia in currentpregnancy that the mean serum magnesium level was 1.9 ± 0.24 mg/dl and the mean vitaminD level was 21.5 ± 13.2 IU/ml. There was no significant association between age, obesity, background disease, asymptomatic bacteriuria, low back pain and pelvic pain with serumlevels of vitamin D and magnesium (P > 0.05). There was significant association betweenserum magnesium level and history of preeclampsia in previous pregnancies (P=0.002) butnot about the serum vitamin D level (P > 0.05). But there was no significant differencebetween serum level of magnesium and vitamin D among women with and withoutpreeclampsia in current pregnancy (P > 0.05).Conclusion:It may be concluded that serum level of magnesium and vitamin D in women withpreeclampsia and women with normal pregnancies are not significantly differed and it maybe mentioned that these two factors would not play an etiologic role for preeclampsia.
