چکیده مقاله:

BACKGROUND: Lesions of the odontogenic keratocyt, dentigerous cysts andameloblastoma are common and important lesions of the jaws.MATERIALS & METHOD: This descriptive study was done on 36 paraffin-embeddedsamples of patients who had odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), dentigerous cyst (DC), and solidameloblastoma(SA), which was taken from the Department of Pathology, Dentistry School of Qazvin &Tehran by using immunohistochemical of Bcl-2 marker. The amount of expression of thismarker in the cells was calculated as percentage in two distinct areas of epithelium and theirtotal was calculated (Stained cells/100 cells in a hot spot fields). Data were analyzed by SPSSsoftware.RESULTS: 44.4% of the samples were men and 55.6% were women. The average age ofpatients was 36+15.9 years old and the 20-29 year-old samples had the highest frequency.Bcl-2 marker expression in the basal layer of odontogenic keratocys, dentigerous cyst andsolid ameloblastoma were 88.07%, 94% and 88.5% respectively. Bcl-2 marker expression inthe basal layer of lesions had no significant difference (p=0.566). Bcl-2 marker expression insuprabasal of three different lesions had significant difference (p=0.022). Correlation betweenBcl-2 expressions was not significant with sex and age of patients. (p> 0.05)CONCLUSION: Bcl-2 expression in the basal and supra basal cells were higher than 50% inmost patients. This feature can lead to impaired cell cycle and survival of epithelial cells thatexplain the aggressive behavior of odontogenic keratocytes.
