چکیده مقاله:
The world of imagination and creativity is a cruel one; it gives birth to ideas, but no place to live in. Ideas, however new they are, after being born, have to live on their own in the land of the known, and once this happens, they will die for they are new no more. Every new idea will die after having lived for a very short time. They may, though, find a new life in their oldness and live years and years after that, but what is for sure is that their old, new life is gone. They can be said to have found a new way to live, and yet their new way is old and their old way, new.It is difficult for an idea whether to live in the old new world or in the new old world. In each case, minds are needed which can provide a living room for these ideas and it is interesting that a mind can house different sets of ideas, and in so doing, be both the old new room for creative ideas and the new old room for older ideas. In any case, it is safe to say that giving these ideas life is extremely difficult. Each mind, though capable of housing both of these aforementioned ideas, will, as has usually been the case, be the room to only one set. In other words, once choosing sides, it becomes harder for a mind to come from each side of this continuum to the middle (where, according to John Updike, the ideas clash). Living in the middle of the line between new old and old new is one of the hardest tasks of all. Taking sides, although a very difficult task in itself, is not as hard as being in the middle. However, some people cannot take sides. They see the beauty of both sides and decide to hang in between and go freely where they want. They are the ones who see the faults and strengths of each side of the continuum. In thus shifting, they bring new insights in each continuum. They, first of all, in order to achieve this aim (of living in between) need to understand each side’s basic notions, and as goes hand in hand with it, their faults.
