چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim:Urinary Tract Infection(UTI) following respiratory system infection is the most common bacterial infections in human. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the most isolated bacteria in UTIs. The sfa/foc gene codes S and 1C fimbria in this bacterium and is consisted as virulence factors in E.coli. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of sfa/foc virulence gene in uropathogenic E. coli isolates in some hospitals in Rasht. Methods:In the present study 76 persons with clinical symptoms and suspected to urinary tract infection were sampled. Urine of the patients were collected from October 2017 to January 2018 and were cultured. The isolated bacteria were identified using biochemical tests. Genomic DNA of E. coli isolates was extracted using TIANGEN kit and the presence of sfa/foc virulence gene was determined by specific primers using PCR method and sequenced to determine whether they are confirmed as E. coli isolates. Results:Out of 76 samples examined, 50 isolates were confirmed as E. coli. The results of this study showed that 14 (28%) out of 50 E.coli isolates had sfa/foc gene. Conclusion:The results of this study showed that the most isolated bacteria were E.coli and sfa/foc gene has a fundamental role in pathogenesis of uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC).
