The impact of identity; manifestation of culture in the built environment, and consequences of lack of identity, case study (Iran- Tehran)

In contemporary era of Iran, especially in many cities in there is able to see the lack of identity and confusion architecture and urbanism. That’s why architects and urban planners are interested about this issue. The consistency and contradiction between the built environment and identity, components of culture and social identity are detrimental effects for people in the environment. Unthinkingly imitation and transformation of urban development and architecture leads to destruction and forgetting the specific historical symbols and patterns. Contemporary cites of Iran have been losing own identity from 19th century till now. Only old buildings as symbols of cites have been reminding the main cites identity. This is a unexplainable regret to inattention and distraction to the historical buildings because that is not just changing the texture and appearance of the city, either this situation leading to destruction and disremembering the several years of Iranian histories. As a result western modern buildings form instead of historical and dilapidated buildings of Iran so new identity has been filling in to the main Iranian identity. The current study is a descriptive-analytic method, the main purpose of that study is showing the effect of architecture on identity and contrariwise through the library resources. In the end presented solutions for Identity and Iranian traditional architecture as a conclusion.
