چکیده مقاله:

One of the basic environmental concerns is the spread of pollution from leachates and gases produced by the accumulation or waste burial in groundwater resources and the environment around the landfill. Not-principled approaches could cause irreparable damages; therefore, it is important to design and construct Engineered Sanitary Landfills (ESLs) in order to control the release of these pollutants. This type of landfill is generally made up of an impermeable Compacted Clay Liner (CCL) or Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) with a drainage layer as well as a gas extraction system. In this paper, to control the leachate percolation from the engineered sanitary landfills within the underlying layers and the surrounding environment, the amounts of 3, 6 and 9 wt.% of nanoclay are added to the CCL in landfill, and the reduction rate of the penetration with different PHs has been reviewed and compared in this condition. The results of the SEEP/W software showed that, with the addition of nanoclay, the leachate velocity is reduced, and increasing acidification and basification of the leachate causes its velocity to become more and less respectively. It was also found that, the nanoclays performance is more appropriate in reducing the leachate permeability by increasing the leachate level in landfill or in landfills with more burial depth. In summary, it can be stated that the addition of nanoclays to the CCL layer, properly control and reduce the leachate velocity and also protect subsoil and underground water from the leachate penetration.
