چکیده مقاله:
It is said that elegy is an occasional poem written on the death of a dear friend, family member, or poet. In this regard, Milton’s Lycidas is no exception. It is written on the death of Edward King, and in it, Milton follows the rules of traditional pastoral elegy. He obeys the conventions laid out by such notable figures as Theocritus, Moschus, Bion, Virgil, and Spenser. However, regardless of the traditional principles drawn up by these poets, Milton was able to create his own innovations within the boundaries of pastoral elegy. He was also able to mix in the ideas and beliefs of Christianity into the poem. In fact, on the one hand, he follows the traditional conventions of elegy and on the other hand, he combines them with the ideas and beliefs of Christian doctrines. The author attempts to show that he has fused into one the conventional assumptions of pastoral elegy with Biblical concepts
