چکیده مقاله:

Introduction & Aim: Radiation therapy, can often leads to thyroid dysfunction. Some studies demonstrated that treatment of breast cancer with RT can be exposed thyroid gland to high doses of radiation. The aim of the study was the systematic review of thyroid dysfunction after radiation therapy in breast cancer Methods: This study was a systematic review. The international databases such as, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Scopus,Elsiver , Web of Science, Embase, ProQuest and Persian databases such as Magiran,SID and Iranmedex were searched.The key terms were thyroid , radiation , breast cancer , thyroid dysfunction and radiotherapy .All observational studies published between 1995-2016 were included and letter to editor, case series ,case report and systematic review studies were excluded.There was No restriction language and location of studied Results: Initially 85 papers evaluated. Finally 6 articles were analyzed and results of papers are summarized. Most studies have shown that radiotherapy is related to thyroid dysfunction. Among patients with breast cancer, hypothyroidism more than other thyroid disorders were reported after RT in studies. Conclusion: Protecting of the thyroid gland during radiation and follow-up of patients with breast cancer after RT suggested for assessment of thyroid gland dysfunction such as ypothyroidism
