چکیده مقاله:

Introduction & Aim: Radiation imaging modalities such as CT scan has potential for increasing breast cancer risk. Chest CT scan is a valuable diagnostic imaging for assessment of lung, heart and mediastinum diseases but side effect of radiation to breast will increase because breast is almost in the center of imaging field due to anatomical position. This study introduces recovery method for decline of breast cancer risk. Methods: Bismuth Polyurethane shield is a cover that contains micrometer metal beads of Bismuth and Polyurethane polymer. This complex is used in 1.1 and 2.2 mm thickness. Measurement of breast dose with and without of this shield was compared. Results: The breast dose in chest CT was 6.197 mGy. Using bismuth polyurethane shield by thickness of 1.1 mm protected breast and 37% decreased dose. Covering breast by 2.2 mm shield reduced 50% breast dose. Conclusions: Results showed that using Bismuth polyurethane shield reduced breast dose. Therefore, has potential for decrease of breast cancer risk and recommended to use in women chest CT.
