Risk Factors of Breast Cancer in Women of Yazd

Introduction: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women (after lung cancer) and is the most common cancer among women. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1/3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer annually worldwide and about 465000 will die from the disease. The practice of health-promoting behaviors by women has been acknowledged as an important strategy for maintaining and enhancing their health status and decreasing the mortality and morbidity due to cancer. Various factors have been found to be predicators of the relative risk of breast cancer. Hence, diagnosing its risk factors is of great importance. Obesity physical inactivity, hypertension ,diabetes , smoking, alcohol consumption, positive history of breast cancer in the family and breast feeding and hormone therapy after menopause are risk factors for breast cancer Method: in the cross- sectional study, 200 middle age women were selected using cluster random sampling from Yazd city. Data was collected by questionnaire via face interview. The SPSS software version 18 was used for analysis.Results: results showed that mean age was 43/61±5/31 years. mean weight was 68/31±11/32; mean BMI was 26/31±3/56 ; %38 of participants were overweight,%16 were obese and %11 were excessive obese.%42/11 of participants were menopause and mean age of menopause were 48/13±5/22 years.%39 of participants suffering from hypertension and %36/5 diabetes,%59 have not physical activity ,%9 were smoker and no participant were not alcohol drinking .%36 of them never do self examination test Conclusions: high prevalence of cancer risk factors in middle –aged women in yazd city, can prone them to breast cancer.so training of health behaviors is necessary for them
