This study uses a lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) already developed to simulate two-dimensional (2D) unsteady-state concentration profiles of a solute substance dissolving in a solvent, in a cubic packed column. The LBM results have significance from the perspective of the physical understanding of the concentration profiles. The model using D2Q9 (two dimensions and 9 speeds) lattice solves the 2D time dependent NS equation and solves 2D advection diffusion equation by the aid of a D2Q5 lattice. In this study ~e report 2D simulation of concentration profiles in a fixed packed column. The lattice models investigate evolution of concentration profiles due to inter- and intra-particle mass in the bed voids without using any empirical correlations or without making ID approximations that are usually made in traditional numerical methods. The model simulation is carried out for three packing arrangements. The simulation results show Results show that with decreasing the contribution of void areas in creation of cubic packed column geometry rn1- concentration of solute substance tend to increase in the region between cylinders and decrease in outlet rn2- variations of concentration from inlet to outlet has a periodic behavior rn3- by decrease in void area maximum value of Uawe increases in centerline and its why the solute is concentrated in this area rnTherefore in chemical engineering point of view if~ are concerning on the design of a system with adsorption its better to decrease void area but this reduction could be limited by a compromise between mechanical efficiency affected by pressure loss and chemical efficiency of system for better absorption or adsorption of solute substance rn
