چکیده مقاله:

IntroductionOne of the most common blood recipient populations at hospitals are newborns. There are numerous Indications for these newborns such as initial transfusion (anemia, acute bleeding, etc). With regards to performing various blood transfusion methods for these newborn at intensive care units also being differences in causes and the age of transfusion, so we decided to study frequency of packed red blood cell in hospitalized neonates at Imam Reza Hospital mashhad north east Iran. Methods:In a cross-sectional study, we enrolled 100 infants who hospitalized in intensive care unit of Imam Reza Hospital and received packed red blood cell during two years. The informations of pateints including gestational age, birth weight, age transfusion, the primary cause of hospitalization, blood group and Rh were recorded. Statistical analysis performed using spss version 16 software and a p-value of less than 0.05 was statistically significant. Results:In this study the mean of gestational age was 31/6±3/6 week, the mean of birth weight was 1581/9±723/8 gram. The mean number of transfusions of packed red blood cell products was 2/06 ± 1/6 times,Our study showed that lower gestational age of infants could be result to more reception of packed red blood cell in number (p value =0/000). As well as lower birth weight of infants could be result to more packed red blood cell transfusion (p value = 0/005). Also infants who were hospitalized with breech received more packed red blood cell than other presentations. (p value 0/001).Also our study showed that there is no relationship between the sex of the infant type of dilivary and lowe APGAR score and received blood products (p value = 0/76Conclusion:This study has showed that breech presentation prematurity and lower birth weight are with increased risk for transfusion. But lowe apgar score. type of dilevary and sex were not with increased risk for transfusion of packed red blood cells.
