چکیده مقاله:

Photoacoustic imaging is a new bio-imaging modality that has been recently suggested for many biomedical applications. Researches show that this method provides anatomical, biological, physiological information on many levels and proves to do well where other methods face limitations or failure. This recent method faces many challenges still to reach its proper place amongst many biomedical modalities and the researches are still in progress to overcome these challenges. Up to now various researches have been done on the application of this method in medicine. Among its applications are breast cancer imaging, oxygen saturation monitoring, blood Hemoglobin density, arteriography (angiography), blood glucose measurement and structural and functional brain imaging. Photoacoustic is a hopeful non-ionizing method as well as being non-invasive and it is safe and cheap being based on Photoacoustic effect with a sensitive optical contrast and high ultrasonic resolution. There is a software for Photoacoustic simulation with high speed. This paper reviews the Photoacoustic imaging system, its applications and its limitations and advantages as well as its medical applications. An introduction to k-wave toolbox is also provided.
