The relationship between knowledge and doing Breast self-examination

Introduction: Breast examination is a case-based, chip and noninvasivediagnosis approach for breast cancer which is recommend by cancerassociations such as the American Cancer Society and the Association forInternational Cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women inIran, and forms 18/9% of prevalent cancer. Since screening programs has aneffective role in early diagnosis, this study performed in order to asses therelationship between knowledge and doing Breast self-examination in womenreferred to hospitals related to Jahrom university of medical science in the year1390.Material and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional population study whichhas been done in Jahrom city in the year 1390 on 435 women over 19 years old.Data were obtained through interview and by questionnaires includedemographic characteristics and questions about Knowledge towards BreastCancer.Results: In this study, their age ranged from (66-19 years), with the mean25/7±96/26 (SD). 9/35% were single,4/63% Married and7/% were widow.1/45% were housewife and 9/54% were employee. 1/11% of women reported ahistory of breast cancer in their relatives. 5/39% had been trained about BSE.Source of information was: in (5/27%) staff and physicians, (4/12%)TV andRadio, (5/8%)paper, (3/3%) relatives. 1/46% did BSE. There was a significantcorrelation between source of information and doing BSE (p = / 003 and r = /23) and between positive family history and doing BSE (p = / 04 and r = / 53).Conclusion: The results indicate that, the more the women were aware, themore self examinations were performed. so improve community awarenessabout breast cancer and doing BSE would have positive effects in order to doingscreening test.
