Reasons for not doing BSE in women referred to the health centers related to Jahrom University of medical science in the year 1391

Breast disease in women is a great concern in the community medicine andsociety. Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second cause of deathrelated to cancer among women. Screening programs and early diagnosis has aneffective role to decrease the morbidity and mortality rate. Since 80 to 90percent of breast lumps are detected by self-examination, so breast selfexamination(BSE) is the best and economical way to early diagnosis. Despitethe education has been doing, low percent of Iranian women has done screeningtests. This study performed in order to determine Reasons for not doing BSE inwomen referred to the health centers related to Jahrom University of medicalscience in the year 1391.Materials & Methods:This is descriptive study has been done on 480 womenreferred to the health centers of Jahrom were chosen by available method. Datawere obtained through interview and by questionnaires include demographiccharacteristics and questions about Reasons for not doing BSE. Findings wereanalyzed by descriptive statistical tests.Results: In this research, Their age ranged from 66-19 years, with the mean64/7±76/27 (SD). 9/33% were single and 5/65% married.9/50% were employeeand 2/60% had a college education. 3/12% had a family history of breast cancer.Only 5/41% had been trained about BSE. (4/37%) referred for examination andmostly (6/62%) did not. Reasons for didn’t refer to the health center: 7/49%thought they had no problems, 1/8% had cost problem,6/3% had no free time,8/1% had problem with Rush in Center Health and 9/9% felt embarrassment ofbreast examination. 7/49% didn’t perform BSE. Reasons: 8/27%, 7/66% didn’tknow the correct method, 8/1% express that, BSE has no worth in the diagnosisof cancer,1/ 1% was afraid of finding a lump in the breast.Conclusion: The results showed that to improve the level of awareness aboutbreast cancer and screening programs, we need educational- hygienictherapeuticprograms in order to prevent cancer. It should be noted thatmidwives are the best people who can effectively educate women about breastcancer prevention methods.
