چکیده مقاله:

Nowadays, there is growing interest in the application of plants as a medicinal agent since synthetic drugs have shown several side effects on the human body. Experimental investigations demonstratedthat many naturally occurring agents in plant extracts have shown antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer potential in a variety of bioassay systems and animal models, having relevance to humandisease. Among the several plant bioactive compounds ferutininis a daucane sesquiterpene found inplants belonging to the Ferula genus and exhibited various biological activities. In this study thecytotoxic properties of ferutinin isolated from the roots of Ferula ovina were investigated against on the MCF-7, breast cancer cell. MCF-7 cell line was cultured in RPMI medium and treated withdifferent concentrations of ferutinin for 24 and 48 hours. Growth inhibition was measured by MTT assay and the absorbance of colored solution at 570 and 630 nm was determined by ELISA reader.Theobtained results revealed that the various concentration of ferutinin potentially inhibited the proliferation of human cancer cell lines (MCF-7). ferutinin was significantly suppressed (about 10%) of the cancer cell in concentration about 128 μg/ml relative to the untreated groups with IC50 about 20 μg/ml 48h after treatment. These findings demonstrated the potential use of ferutinin. as a natural medicine and indicated the possible application of this medicinal plant like cytotoxic agents.
