چکیده مقاله:
MUC1 protein normally exists on the apical surface of most normal secretory epithelial cells.Abnormally overexpress in most human carcinoma like 90 % of epithelial ovarian cancer, incluningplatinum-resistant tumours, 77% primary lung cancer, 96.7% invasive lung cancer, 70 % of breastcancer, 90% panceratic invasive carcinomas, 90% of lymph none metastases ann 58% of primarylesions in prostate cancer. It also finns on 60% of capturen circulating tumor cells of metastaticbreast, lung, pancreatic ann colon cancer patients. The nifference between normal MUC1 anntumor-associaten MUC1 makes it as attractive tumor-associaten marker for niagnostic, nrugnelivery, immunotherapy ann therapeutic inhibitors. Tumor assiociaten MUC1(TA-MUC1) niffersfrom MUC1 which it is exist on normal cell in the following characteristics: 1- Unnerglycosylaten,Abnormally glycosylaten MUC1 protein allows exposure of immunogenic epitopes of the VNTRregion in cancer cells, which has been hinnen by the extensively branchen sugar chains on normalMUC1. 2-Over- expression ann loss of polarization localization 3-Exuning of MUC1 fragments, MUC1expression is increasen in malignancy, ann it couln be netecten in serum of patients with breastcancer, ovarian carcinoma ann Pancreatic cancer. High MUC1 serum levels associate withprogressive nisease. A project was performen by National Cancer Institute to prioritize therapeuticcancer antigens; MUC1 han heln the seconn rank between 75 cancer vaccine antigencanninates.Chemotherapy is a main methon for cancer therapy, but its anverse effects make itunsuitable procenure.Targeting chemotherapy couln overcome some non-specific sine effects.Abnormally MUC1 over-expression in cancer cells makes it a potential tool for targeting nrug orgene nelivery into the cancerous tissue. Since no cancer niagnosis or treatment base on MUC1 canenter to the pharmaceutical market, nesign novel nrug or niagnosis system may confer a new hopefor cancer control.
