An Integer Programming Model for Optimization of Strategic Planning in a Multi Product Construction Company

This paper introduces a framework for optimization of strategic planning by an integrated Integer Programming (IP) model in a multi product construction company. Due to limited resources in an organization, implementation of the prescribed strategies from the management information system (MIS), expert system, etc for all strategic business units (SBUs) may be somewhat impossible. Therefore, an IP is developed to alleviate resource limitation and strategic differences among SBU. In turn, a set of optimum and applicable strategies are introduced. The IP model is introduced to optimize the recommended strategies among SBUs of a large organization. The approach of this paper was designed and tested for a manufacturer of construction products. This is the first study that introduces an integrated IP for optimization of strategic planning among SBUs of an organization.
