Safe Handling of compressed Gases

A compressed gas is defined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as any material or mixture which exerts in the packaging an absolute pressure of280 KPa (40.6 psig) or greater at 20°C (68°F). About four key words or phrases in alphabetical order, separated by commas. The handling of compressed gases must be considered more hazardous than the handling of liquid and solid materials because of the following properties unique to compressed gases: pressure, low flash points for flammable gases, low boiling points, and no visual and/or odor detection of many hazardous gases.
