Efficient one-pot synthesis of highly functionalized furan fused spirooxindoles using pyridinium salt

A facile and efficient approach for the synthesis of 2-benzoyl-5-(1H-indol-3-yl)-2 -oxo-2H-spiro[furan-3,3 -indoline]-4-carbonitrile derivatives was developed via a one-pot, three-component reaction of isatins with3-cyanoacetyl indole and N-phenacylpyridinium bromide in the presence of triethylamine. The reactionwas carried out in ethanol under reflux conditions, and the products were obtained in good to moderateyields with a simple work-up procedure.
