چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Silver zeolite (SZ) has been shown to have bactericidal and fungicidal effects. However, at present no information is available on the interaction of SZ with fish and shellfish pathogens. To fill this gap, effects of silver zeolite on in vitro growth of fish pathogenous species of Saprolegnia was investigated. Method & Materials: The antifungal activity of silver zeolite was evaluated by determining the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) by using two-fold serial dilutions of silver zeolite in GY-agar at 22ºC. The growth of Saprolegnia was compared to the growth on SZfree agar controls. Results & Conclusion: Results showed that Silver zeolite had inhibiting effect on in vitro growth of the tested fungi. The MIC of silver zeolite for Saprolegnia ranged between 500 and 600 μg/ml Ag. These results suggested that indirect use of silver zeolite may be beneficial to provide new antifungal activity in aquaculture systems as an alternative for direct use of teratogenic and toxic agents such as malachite green.
