چکیده مقاله:

Objective: The Kor River is one of the permanent rivers of the Fars Province exposed to various contaminations such as heavy metals, because of accumulation of industrial and agricultural centers around it. According to previous studies heavy metals such as Pb, As, Hg and Cd accumulate in different tissues of fish and so can have adverse effects on organs, such as blood cell; So the aim of present investigation was the study of adverse effect of heavy metals on red blood cell count, white blood cell count and percentage of hematocrite and pathophysiology of blood cell. Method & Materials: Kor River was divided into three parts: upper zone (Doroodzan dam zone as control), mid zone (Band-e- Amir Village) and lower zone (Korbal Village). 10 fish were caught from each zone. After blood sampling, blood smear was prepared and stained with Geimsa. RBC count, WBC count and percentage of hematocrite were done by routine methods. Data were analyzed by one way ANOVA and tucky's test as post – hoc test. The level of significance was P< 0.05. Results & Conclusion: Data showed that RBC, WBC and percentage of hematocrite in 3 zone of Kor River had no significant (P<0.05) difference. Blood smears study showed nuclear malformation, cytoplasmic vacuolation and nuclear chromatinization in blood RBC cells. According to the present results, it seems that heavy metal contamination in Kor River lead to damage in blood cells.
