چکیده مقاله:

The aims of the present study were to identify the relationship between psychotherapy and psychological counseling and to show the differences between them, in terms of goals, methods, styles and specialists. To achieve the goals of the research, the researcher reviewed and analyzed the literature of psychological therapy and psychological counseling and found that psychotherapy more related with and depended on psychological counseling. There are three hypotheses to explain this relationship:1. There are no significant differences between them because they are similar and can be used interchangeably.2. There are substantial differences between them despite similarities.3. There is a similarity in the number of characteristics and the difference in others, this is the most powerful and accepting hypothesis. The researcher concluded that the overall goal of psychotherapy is to help people who are troubled to change their thinking, feelings and behavior in ways that heal and relieve the grief or distress, and increase the welfare or happiness and improve their overall performance. Psychological counseling is the process of helping the individual to understand and analyze his preparations, abilities, potentials, tendencies, opportunities, problems and needs, and the researcher concluded that the procedures of psychological counseling and psychological therapy are the same, both start by identifying the problem and ending with solving it, the difference in quantity nor in quality, in a person nor in a process and degree of work and concentration. In light of the results, the most important recommendations were that universities and colleges pay particular attention to counseling and psychotherapy centers and work on developing them and working on opening courses for mentors and psychotherapists inside and outside the country to learn about the experiences of others. And to complement the current research conducted on the characteristics of psychologists and counselors.
