Light is the most non-material element is the tangible nature that in any period, has assigned a specific sense to the architecture and life. In fact, light and architecture are concepts which have been linked over the history. In addition to the functional use, light always has a symbolic value as well. Light has been part of the essence of life and in many cultures, light or sun, as the source of light, have been considered as a divine element and it has been appreciated. One of the challenges of today s architecture is to consider the same issue that the presence of light, particularly natural light in architecture can have a meaning beyond the lighting. Light, whether natural or artificial, with the skill that can be used by designer can propose the space a character and to place its own identity. From long ago, Iranian architects realized the importance of light in architecture and have developed clever ways to use light in the building. Light is not evenly used in Iranian architecture and the use of these natural elements is very diverse and varied. The constantly changing light, the colors and Penumbra adequate visual messages to the human eye. In this study, while express in the qualitative properties of light and Introduction the main approaches to it, the importance of the concept of architectural lighting control at different times of day is Discussed aimed to proper use of light tools in architectural design. In the first part, the experiences of traditional architecture in use of light is described and analyzed and then, the social concept of night in the present age is discussed. The method is based on documentary research with descriptive – analytical approach and SWOT model has used to analyze the findings.
