Reservoir simulation has proven to be a promising and powerful tool to analyze and learn about oil and gas reservoir behaviors, but in some extent it is difficult and there is some challenges to simulate the behavior of unconventional and detail changes in reservoirs. Geomechanics and its proper applications is important in production and recovery process of oil and gas reservoirs, as the permeability and porosity change significantly during this process. For instance, in hydraulic fracturing process, new fractures are created and geomechanical properties of reservoir, such as in situ stress and deformation, are considered to vary when compared to the original. In this case, it is difficult to simulate this process if the reservoir rock media is assumed to be static. A multiphase flow reservoir processes with coupled geomechanic model must be incorporated to simulate the dynamic behavior of the reservoir induced by hydraulic fracturing operation. There are several numerical simulation method of coupled fluid flow and geomechanics in porous media. In this paper we will review and discuss about methods of geomechanical and reservoir simulation coupled system in general and especially for the aim of hydraulic fracturing effect on reservoir performance in short and long term production scenarios.
