The Analysis of Energy Consumption Intensity in Supply Chain (Case study: China Steel Industry)

In this paper, due to the importance of energy consumption as one of the main indicators of green supply chain, this indicator has been selected for analyzing the suppliers of steel industry in China. The World Input Output Databases has been applied for gathering the requirements data. Mining industry, Water and Gas and Electricity suppliers industry and Machining industry have been found as the main Chinese suppliers of China steel industry. Then, by forming the supply chain of this industry and calculating their energy consumption, the suppliers have been compared with each other. It was concluded that in a two echelon supply chain of China steel industry, around a quarter of the total energy consumption is the supplier share. Only three-fourths of the total energy consumption belongs to steel industry. In practice, this method and the obtained results can be applied in other industries and countries like Iran. Moreover, more suppliers can be also analyzed in the whole supply chain of industries in future research.
