The Effect of Spinning Temperature on the Structure and Physical Properties of Filament Yarn Produced from Recycled PET

The production of PET to the soft drinks bottling category in the 1970’s revolutionized container technology for all beverage suppliers. The Coca-Cola Company has been at theforefront of extending this revolution into the use of post consumer R-PET. PET first came to notice in 1950’s as a textile material.However, in the 1970’s it began to be seen as an ideal lightweight replacement for carbonated soft drink glass bottles [1].Applications for recycled PET include fiber, sheet,strapping and bottles. The barrier to increased recycling of PET is more likely to be supply rather than demand for therecycled resin [2]. Types of degradation occurring in re-extrusion of PET fiber wastes can be listed as thermal degradation, thermo-oxidativedegradation, hydrolysis and mechanical degradation [3].
