The effect of using PVC on vulcanization behaviour of EPDM/SBR blend

The purpose of blending the rubbers is to improve the physical and mechanical properties as well as modify processing characteristics and reduce the cost of the final product [1].Styrene Butadiene rubber (SBR) is used as a general purpose rubber with a very good abrasion and ageing resistance as wellas low temperature properties. The main desirable properties of Ethylne Propylene Diene Momomer (EPDM) are its excellent aging and ozone resistance, low temperatureflexibility, excellent resistance to chemicals and heat resistance [2]. It is expected that the blend of these twopolymers, in presence of a compatiblizer, show both of these properties. In this work different amounts of PVC are used in the SBR/EPDM blend and its effect on vulcanization characteristics and properties of the blend is investigated
