Study of Wood Plastic Composites’s Density with Considering Porosity

Wood Plastic composites (WPC) contain typically a relative large amount of porosity, which considerably influences properties and performance of the composites. Previousstudies on WPC have mainly focused on the fibre and matrix part of the composites, and neglected the existence of the thirdpart, the porosity. Porosity, which is identified as air-filled cavities inside an otherwise continuous material, is an often unavoidable part in all composites, and is developed duringthe mixing and consolidation of two different material parts. A model is presented to predict the porosity as a function of the fibre weight fractions and density.
