چکیده مقاله:

Effect of EPDM Mooney viscosity on the dispersion of organoclay (OC) and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites based on Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) blends with 5 phr organoclay has been investigated. Rubber compounds were prepared by conventional mixed method on a two roll mill. Then the vulcanized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and measuring mechanical properties. XRD showed a higher expansion of the layers in the nanocomposite with lower Mooney viscosity EPDM. In the compound containing EPDM with higher Mooney viscosity more layers of the OC were intercalated. Measuring mechanical properties showed the reinforcing effect of the OC in the SBR/EPDM blend. Mechanical properties of samples, especially in those containing EPDM with higher viscosity, received markedly increase by the OC loading due to the good interaction established between OC particles and polymer matrix
