Synthesis of Polyethylene Glycol based hydrogels via click chemistry and investigation of drug controlled release from these polymeric systems

Homopolymeric hydrogels on the basis of polyethylene glycol and copolymeric hydrogels on the basis of polycaprolactone and polyethylene glycol were synthesized via azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction in the presence of copper (I) catalyst. Swelling behaiviour of these hydrogels was investigated and also diclofenac sodium as model drug was loaded into hydrogels and investigation of drug release was carried out in PBS (pH=7.4) at 37°C. The results showed that in homopolymeric hydrogels with decreasing in molecular weight of PEG, the maximum degree of swelling was decreased and drug release time was increased. In copolymeric hydrogels with decreasing of PEG content, the swelling ratio was decreased and drug release time was increased.
