Sulfonated Poly Ionic Liquid (SO3H@PIL) as a Highly Active and Durable Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Esterification and Pechmann Reactions

Herein a novel solid acid catalyst based onsulfonic acid immobilized on Poly Ionic Liquid has been described. The final catalyst which was simply synthesized andcharacterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermo‐gravimetric analysis, was found to be an efficient and environmentally benign solid acid for theesterification reactions under the solvent free conditions. The studies showed that the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused at least three reaction cycles without any significant loss in catalytic activity and efficiency.
