چکیده مقاله:

Culture has a great effect on human perception act as a three-step process of selection, organization, and interpretation affected by culture. In any cross-cultural information exchange much of what is not actually said must be inferred through what may seem to be indirection. Considering the given points, this research aims at exploring how Iranian EFL learners perceive and perform the speech samples in their social and cultural interactions in their speech community. To this end, the required data were gathered from 140 Persian native speakers and Iranian learners of English (aged 18-40).The collected data are analyzed descriptively. The results showed considerable variations emerged in semantic formulae, that is to say, Communicative performance in a variety of situations can be affected by role perception, motivation, and ability. In particular speech events, considering the norms in the society leads to better social interaction and EFL learners’ perception and thought processes are not independent of their cultural environment.
