Causes of Teacher Burnout

Teachers have an important role in the society since they influence the youth and guide them in b eing successful and responsible adults. The teachers are expected not only to be knowledgeable b ut also well-balanced and alert in other aspects related to teaching (students’ behavioral issues, st udents’ learning tactics …) making it a tactful and difficult job. Hence, it becomes important to consider the well-being of the teachers and to study the challenges faced by them resulting in bur nout. This paper aims at examining and comparing the causes that lead to such a condition. a questionnaire has been prepared and distributed among ten teachers with minimum 5 years of exper ience in teaching English as a foreign language in university and institute. The physiological, psychological and environmental factors are found out and their frequency are assessed and ana lyzed statistically. Results suggest a possible relation between demotivation, depersonalization a nd stressful conditions and the feeling of burnout.
