Analysis of the Role of High-Rise Construction in Urban Landscape

The uncontrolled flow of population into large cities, the basic needs of humans and the limited urban scene are among the most important concerns of modern urban development. With the increasing growth of the urban society and the need for housing, one of the effective methods for responding to this need is high-rise construction. Today, several factors are involved in urban development and urban landscape, one of which is high-rise construction. According to many variables, high-rise construction can be considered negative or positive depending on the city. As seen all around the globe, this approach has significantly influenced urban organization and landscape. In general, it could be stated that a city must meet its own needs. In addition, high-rise construction can be examined from the following viewpoints: A) performance (which meets the need for housing); B) identity (which can be boosting or weakening depending on the age and infrastructure of the city); C) aesthetics and readability.Moreover, urban high-rise buildings play an important role in creation of mental images of the city on the minds of citizens as they act as symbols. The present research was an attempt to examine the role of high-rise construction in urban landscape and its effect on the urban area and to study feasibility of improving design of urban elements with this method through desktop and field studies as well as the descriptive-analytical approach.
