Effectiveness of dialectical behavioral therapy on females with dependent personality disorder

The aim of the present study is effectiveness of dialectical behavioral therapy in reducing the severity of dependent personality disorder symptoms. Subjects were 30 female who have been referred to counseling centers. All the patients completed the Millon Clinical Multiaxical Inventory. 15 patients formed the experimental group and received skill training of dialectical behavioral therapy and the other 15 patients were placed on a waiting list. Based on the data analysis of this study, the mean score of post test and follow up trials are significantly lower than pre test scores. It can be concluded that dialectical behavioral group therapy has efficacy to reduce the severity of dependent personality symptoms and this reduction is stable over time. It seems dialectical behavioral therapy by training patients with skills such as: being non-judgmental, recognizing and labeling emotions, managing extreme emotions such as anger, fear and guilt, managing life-treating situation, and accepting circumstances that we cannot change, help patients to reduce their symptoms. Current results indicate that DBT has efficacy to reduce dependent personality symptoms.
