Collection, Storage, Retrieval and Distribution of Biological Materials for Research

The availability of high quality biological and environmental specimens for researchpurposes requires the development of standardized methods for collection, long-termstorage, retrieval and distribution of specimens that will enable their future use. Sharingsuccessful strategies for accomplishing this goal is the main purpose of this presentation.Throughout it effective practices are presented for the management of specimen collectionsand repositories. Repository planning considerations, facilities, storage equipment, access,quality standards and security systems will be discussed. We are developing a ColorectalCancer Repository collecting different types of specimens for CRC patients. Repositories areso precious tools to study diseases especially in preventive medicine.
