چکیده مقاله:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second principal cause of cancer deathsin women worldwide as well as in Iran. The current study aimed at evaluating the effects ofan education program using the Theory of Planned Behavior on promoting Health Literacyand behaviors that lead to the proper diagnosis of breast cancer in Roshtkhars Rural womenaged 35 years and over. In this interventional semi-experimental, a sample of Rural women(N=80) from the Roshtkhar (in winter of 2015) were selected by stratified cluster sampling.The subjects were divided into two groups of experimental(40) and control(40) groups. Aquestionnaire was given to each of them measuring demographics, knowledge, attitudes,subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, behavior and FunctionalHealth Literacy for Adults. The questionnaires were completed by students during the threeperiods: before, immediately after and Three month after the intervention. Data wereanalyzed using SPSS software version16.using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlationtest, Repeated Measures ANOVA and linear regression models (α=0.05). The resultsshowed significant differences in mean of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioralcontrol, behavioral intention, behavior and Health Literacy in the experimental group after theintervention had occurred (P<0.001), but no significant change was observed in the controlgroup (P>0.05). Educational intervention based on the theory of planned behavior promotesHealth Literacy and behaviors that lead to the proper diagnosis of breast cancer. It isrecommended to apply this theory for improving the screening behaviors.
