چکیده مقاله:

In the present research work, influences of different internal stiffeners on energy absorption behavior of square specimens with thin-walled cross-section during the flattening process are investigated, experimentally. For this purpose, some aluminum specimens are reinforced by different patterns of stiffeners and compressed in the lateral direction to study effects of stiffener presence and stiffener types on energy absorption capacity of the structure. For each specimen, total absorbed energy and absorbed energy per mass are measured. Experimental results indicate that the highest energy absorption belongs to a specimen with two tangential curved sheets as the stiffener; and the simple specimen without internal stiffener has the least energy absorption value. The reinforced specimen by using a single curved sheet into a square column has the highest value of specific absorbed energy and also, a simple specimen without any internal stiffener is higher than the specimen with U-shape stiffener.
