A comparative study of dielectric double-Debye and mixture Fitzgerald models in terahertz regiem for breast cancer detection

Terahertz electromagnetic radiation is in the range between microwave and infrared. In the last two decades, according to the application and capabilities of the waves, THz science and technology has been advanced very much. According to the terahertz imaging studies, there is a significant difference between healthy and cancerous tissue. Water absorption in the terahertz range is high. And due to the high water content in tissues as well as cancerous tissue compared to normal tissue, the basic mechanism of creating a contrast in this range nearby tissues is attributed to changes in water content. So the dielectric models are suitable for modeling body tissues. In this paper, the complex permittivity of breast tissue were simulated with experimental data prior studies by fitted double-Debye and Fitzgerald Models. According to the results of the simulation, the simulation model of Fitzgerald acted more powerful in breast tissue while the double-Debye model in the real part and also at the frequencies below 1 THz has failed to act well.
