Victims and Truth Commissions

While the International Criminal Court emphasizes on the crimes committed and the interests of the international community, truth commissions emphasize on the needs of victims and transitional society. Truth commissions provide an opportunity for victims, witnesses and perpetrators of international crimes to recounting memories in order to help create a historical record. As it is recognized from the name of truth commissions, they are mechanisms for finding the truth and compensate the harms incurred to victims through the realization of the right to the truth.
