Effect of blade trailing edge profile on performance of the centrifugal pump that conveys oil

چکیده مقاله:
The performance of centrifugal pump drops significantly during pumping oil instead of water. According to the wide use of centrifugal pumps in the industry to translate viscous liquids, improve their operational features for this type of usage has been considered as an important issue from both companies and scholars. In this research study to investigate the influence of blade outlet edge profile, different impeller models have been developed by changing this parameter, while keeping all other parameters as constant. The finite volume method and High Resolution algorithm have been used for discretization of the governing equation and solve them, respectively. In addition, the k-ω SST turbulence model has been implemented to simulate water and oil turbulent flows through the impeller as well as the volute. The results of the numerical solution have shown that impeller with blade trailing shape of oval 1/4 has better operation than other cases. The modified model has presented 2.44 meter of head and 0.9% of efficiency increase than first model.
