Design and manufacture of a novel supercapacitor with PVAKOH- KI gel polymer electrolyte and carbon-ceramicnanocomposite electrode

A supercapacitor was assembled by sandwiching a gel electrolyte containing alkaline polyvinylalcohol and potassium hydroxide (PVA–KOH) in the presence and absence of potassium iodide (KI)between two MWCNT carbon ceramic electrode (CCE) made by sol–gel method as a substrate. Theelectrochemical properties of this supercapacitor were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, Calibrationcurve, and charge–discharge galvanostate techniques. Various salts has been used in the PVA–KOHsystem, finally KI was selected as the best salt with an optimum concentration of 0.04 M.. Charging anddischarging were carried out at a constant current of 1.0 μA The results prove that the presence of KI inthe PVA–KOH electrolyte at the interface of the I−/I2 redox pair leads to an increase in the specificcapacitance of the supercapacitor.
