Case study on corrosion of disulfide oil separator drum

We were studied a corrosion failure at liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) treatment unit in the second refinery of South Pars. Disulfide oil separator (DSO) drum wasinvestigated for corrosion failure. The study was performed on inspection reports as wanted shut downs. The results showed that the corrosion was occurred at 9 to 3 o clock area. Morphology of corrosion was as gouging. Maximum depth of gouging was 2.5 to 3 mm. More investigation showed that bad operation condition cause to decompose disulfides. Finally, the decomposed compounds cause corrosion
