چکیده مقاله:
The fuel cell is regarded as a green energy technology for the future. Despite its simplicity, many difficulties have prevented the widespread usage of fuel cells including high content of high cost platinum as the most familiar electro-catalyst, oxygen sluggish kinetics caused by CO-like species poisoning effect and the formation of –OH species at +0.8 V, which inhibits further reduction of oxygen. Recently, much of the research work is focused on the system of combining metal oxides to reduce the catalytic loading of the materials (cost reduction), to improve the electrochemical activity for the cathodic reaction and to increase stability. In this study, among the various fabrication methods, the precipitation method was used to synthesis Pt/C as base catalyst and Pt/C-NiO, Pt/C-SnO2 as modified catalysts using NaBH4 as a reducing agent. X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy characterizations were carried out to determine the particle size and distribution of the catalysts. XRD patterns of samples showed peaks characteristic of crystal phases of Pt and of metal oxide. SEM images revealed that SnO2 and NiO nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed on the surface Pt/C support. Cyclo voltametery curves were recorded to evaluate the electrochemical activity of synthesized electrocatalysts. The higher current and positive potential shift was observed for samples especially for Pt/C-SnO2. It seems that higher conductivity and stability of SnO2 and the excellent electrochemical performance of NiO were changed the structural-electronic properties of Pt substrate and synergistically improved the electrochemical activity.
