Evaluation of identity styles and PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS IN MALE STUDENTS WITH TOBACCO ABUSE IN DUBAI

Objectives : Adolescence is one of the most important stages of human growth and evolution of human life, which its developmental characteristics may predispose kinds of behavioral disorders, delinquency, drug abuse and mental illnesses. The aim of this study was to determine and investigate the identity styles and symptoms of the psychopathological in adolescent students living in Dubai .Methods: This present study is based on causal and comparison . Statistical population included the Iranian high school boy students , living in the UAE in the 2102-2102 school years. Subjects were selected by random sampling method and divided into two groups : tobacco placebo users (n = 01) and normal group (non-users, n = 01). To collect data from Berzonskey identity style scale (ISI-6G) and pathological Symptom Inventory (SCL-01) questionnaires were used. Data were analyzed by method of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA).Result: This study revealed that among identity styles scores (informational style , normative style, diffuse /avoidant style) there was only meaningful difference in normal identity style between those who were tobacco abusers and non smokers and among the scores of SCL01 ( physical complaints, obsessive and compulsive, sensitivity in relations, depression, anxiety, aggression, phobia, Paranoid thoughts, GSI, psychosis) only in physical complains, Anxiety ,Agression and GSI there was meaningful difference between two groups.Conclusion: It seems that among the different styles of identity, normative identity style can only tend to be significantly effective on tobacco use or non use in adolescents. On the other hand young tobacco users significantly more than non-users suffering from obsessive-compulsive, anxiety, aggression, and lack of mental health.
