The effects of motivational self- talk on mental skills of Iran women's national under 20 rowing team

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of motivational self -talk on mental skills. Materials and Methods: In this study, 14 members of the national team canoeadolescent girls in the age range 14 to 18 years who participated in the camp of the national team, was used. The present sample was taken equal to population (holistic) anddivided in two equal experimental and control groups .The experimental group engagedin12 sessions of training self-talk. In first session after 15-minute general body warm-up, the pre-test questionnaire (OMSAT-3) with no self-talk intervention was administered.After 12 self-talk training session a post-test with self-talk intervention conducted. At the end a post-test was taken. In order to analyze the present data, in addition to descriptivestatistics, standard deviation and other descriptive measures analysis of covariance was used and significant level was P< 0/05. Result and Discussions: Results showed that the experimental group was significantlydifferent from the control group in subscales of self-esteem (p =0.017), stress management (p =0.004), concentration (p =0.035) and recovery concentration (p=0.040). Conclusion: self-talk influence on the mental skill development and improve participants' skills, confidence and concentration.
