چکیده مقاله:

Respiratory tract aspergillosis refers to Opportunistic respiratory mycoses of the respiratory tract caused by Aspergillus and Candida species. Mycotic disease is an important Co-existence in patients with tuberculosis. Respiratory tract aspergillosis has clinical and radiological characteristics which are very similar to tuberculosis thereby making the disease easily misdiagnosed and mistreated as tuberculosis. This prompted us to investigate the prevalence of respiratory tract Aspergillus sp. in the sputum of patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis. A total of 175 sputa samples were studied for Aspergillus sp. and M. tuberculosis. Direct microscopy by three staining technique, KOH+Calcofluor white, GMS and Gimsa, fungal culture were done on Sabouraud Dextrose agar+ Chloramphenicol. Analysis for Acid-Fast Bacilli was done by the Ziehl - Neelsen technique. specific identification of isolated mold fungi strains (conventional methods, identification media Czapek agar) . Aspergillus sp were isolated from 30(17.2%) patients; A. flavus was isolated in 12 (5.7%) patients while A. fumigatus, A. niger, and A. orizea were isolated from 9 (5.1%), 6 (3.4%) and 5 (2.8%) patients respectively. M. tuberculosis was found in 27(15.4%) and a Co-existence of 3(1.7%) was observed.
