Role of public participation in Sustainable City

In recent years the concept of sustainable development, especially in the cities, has been taken into consideration in both micro and macro levels.The concept of public participation in making and implementing decisions is an important factor to achieving sustainable development In this paper, the concept of public participation to achieve sustainabledevelopment in cities based on literature survey is evaluated and then seeking the answer to this question explaining how poor population could be encouraged to participate in the development process. Finally, the results are adapted with framework of sustainable development and public participation factors and these evidence leads to prove that such measures as creative design in public spaces, city branding, employing successful place-making and sense of place, enriching creative setting,and improving local business performance in retail sectors, haveprovided adequate incentives to encourage the disadvantage society classes and besides, have taken a step towards sustainable development.
