Effect of green roof on amount of energy consumption for cooling and heating administrative buildings under hot and dry climate across Tehran

Emergence of computers and other electrical tools in administrative buildings has caused ascending the interior temperature in these buildings, in which extensive glass facades have caused intensifying the interior temperature. The main problem lies on this fact that how the interior temperature can be maintained without increase of energy consumption for cooling in case we are provided with extensive glass façade for visual linkage with exterior space. The present research aims to examine effect of green roof on amount of energy consumption for cooling and heating administrative buildings under hot and dry climate across Tehran. Casual research and simulation have been used as the research method. Design Builder Software has been used as the research instrument. Building with and without green roof has been modeled and analyzed so as to acquire effect of green roof on amount of energy consumption for cooling and heating. Using green roof in building, 2.03 kilowatt-hours per square is saved for cooling building.Yet, use of green roof in building has increased amount of energy consumption for heating, which this amount equals to 2.78 kilowatt-hours per square. This amount of decrease and increase in cooling and heating load lies on difference in amount of solar radiation received in building with and without green roof.
